District Plan was last updated- 07/10
Child Safety and Cyberbullying - yes
Does it address copyright, plagiarism and validity of resources? NO it doesn't
Positive or Punititve? I feel that it is punitive because it focuses on punishment if you misuse the internet
‍‍My child school district says they require students and parents to sign and return their policy in order for students to use the internet although they do not reinforce this policy‍‍
Teachers may fully understand this policy but I don't feel that students and parents do because they don't follow up and make sure that the policy has been signed and returned
As a parent I am not aware who is involved in revising the AUP/RUP

Video Notes:
It is important for schools to have AUP/RUP so that everyone is fully aware of what is expected from both educators and students and parents when using the internet. Teachers need to know how to monitor students internet use to help protect them when students are at school. Parents need to know what their children are and are not allowed to use the internet for and students need to know that they have rules when it comes to using the internet and other forms of media. Students need to know that there are consequences if they abuse their privilages.

Module 2
Reflection Questions:
1. How does this information on copyright correspond with what you already know and use in your classroom. Before this class I only knew the basics about copyright laws. I knew that if something said it was copyrighted and you wanted to use the name, title etc you had to have permission to do so.
It is illegal to copy and use another persons work without permission
2. How are you teaching your students about copyright? I can teach my daughter about copyright laws by explaining to her that you can use another persons work to gain information and knowledge and apply what you have learned to your own work but that you cannot copy their work
3. How do you model correct use of copyrighted materials in your classroom and in your daily life?
4. Do you observe violations of copyright law in your school or among your associates? If so, what violations have your noticed (perhaps now as a result of reading the above materials), and how might you help people to better understand copyright?
5. Why do you think some people violate copyright law? I think that some violate copyright laws both on purpose and sometimes with out even knowing they have done so.
6. Why do we have copyright laws? We have copyright laws to protect people that have created a piece of work and deserve compensation for their work.

What have your leared about fair use that will help you teach your children? I have learned that it is ok to use portions of someone elses work if you are using it to state your opinion about their work but you have to be careful in that manner that you are using copyrighted material or you could be liable for damages.
